Mahx Capacity (they/them) is a Brooklyn-based performance maker, entrepreneur, and postmodern pornographer. Capacity’s work is interstitial: existing across/between live performance, pornography, object-making, community building, and experimental economic systems. A white, fat, queer, trans/non-binary maker and performer, Capacity is a maximalist who believes in the radical promise of pleasure, and the powerful obscenity of embodiment.

Mahx founded the A.O. Movement Collective (2006-2019), consulting practice A.O. PRO(+ductions) (2008-), and is a co-founder and the current Creative Director of AORTA films (2015-).

Born and raised outside of Washington, DC, Capacity attended Sarah Lawrence College in New York where they studied dance, film, and new media with teachers including Emily Devine, Sara Rudner, Peggy Gould, Kathy Westwater, Keith Sabado, and Tony Schultz, and engineering a new hypermedia technology for performance as their thesis. Their work with A.O. PRO(+ductions) specializes in sustainability consulting, fundraising, intuitive systems, and strategy. Through PRO, Mahx has served as the Managing Consultant for Tere O'Connor Dance, and the General Manager for Juliana F. May/MAYDANCE and Aynsley Vandenbroucke, and consulted for artists including Tess Dworman, Sarah Chien, Steven Petronio, the BESSIES, Christen Clifford, Kayla Hamilton, Will Rawls, Adrienne Truscott, and more. They served as the Producer at Gibney from 2019 through 2021. Mahx has been featured as a panelist, speaker, and educator by numerous colleges, organizations, and institutions, and identified by Kickstarter as an expert in their field. www.AOPRO.info

Founded in 2006, the A.O. Movement Collective presented work at venues including Joyce SoHo, HERE Arts, LaMaMa, CATCH, AUNTS, CPR, DNA, and Dance Place, as well as galleries, rooftops, and non-traditional spaces across the Northeast USA. Their work explored embodiment via a rigorous love affair with the aesthetics of mess. They worked in realms of world-building and improvisation-based scores; rockstars, researchers, ever-glitching techno-feminists. The AOMC’s last work was feature film (W/HOLE), created in collaboration with AORTA films in 2019. They are no longer making work; time will tell if they’ll return to it at some point in the future. www.theAOMC.org

AORTA films is an internationally award-winning studio creating explicit, experimental queer cinema: lusty, opulent, glorious, fuckery. Their films center performers across a wide range of bodies and identities. Hailing from queer BDSM backgrounds, the studio works collaboratively, prioritizing enthusiastically consensual practices. AORTA’s work has been presented at the Berlin, London, Vienna, and Athens Porn Film Festivals, Hacker Porn (Rome), POP PORN (Brazil), Excéntrico Fest (Chile), MIX Copenhagen, Berlin Feminist Film Week, Hot Bits (Philly), BRIEFS (Oakland), BAM, MoMA PS1, and the ICA London. Their recent feature (W/HOLE) was commissioned by The Invisible Dog Art Center and supported by the Effing Foundation. www.AORTAfilms.com
